SYNOPSIS

Diploma In Marine Engineering is designed to cover engineering knowledge and practices related to marine engineering. It also emphasize on the handling and maintenance of ship’s main propulsion plant, marine power generation, ship construction and naval architecture. This programme also includes basic mechanical engineering knowledge. The programme is conducted for seven semester which includes industrial training/sea training for 12 months. Education and training programmes conducted are designed not only to meet but exceed the minimum level of skills and competencies stipulated in the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW) 1995 and other relevant national and international standards and guidelines. Students completed this programme will be exempted from Part A Certificate of Competency for Second Engineer Officers and Chief Engineer Officers ≥ 3000 kW unlimited by the Marine Department, Ministry of Transport (MOT) Mala

Graduates in Diploma in Marine Engineering with relevant Certificate of Competency (COC) are able to work as: Marine Engineer Superintendent engineer Marine officer in Marine Department Assistance Engineer Lecturer in Maritime Institution Assistance Engineer in Shipyard, Heavy Industry and Power Plants

PROGRAMME AIMS

Graduates of Diploma in Marine Engineering programme at Polytechnics will have knowledge, skills and attitude that will allow them to make tangible contributions and meet new technical challenges. They will possess entrepreneurial skills, practice good work ethics, be able to promote good morality and behavior, and continuously enhance their knowledge and skills. The graduates will communicate and interact responsibly and be able to contribute effectively as a team member. They will also be adaptable to new changes at the work place.
